The joke about "god can manipulate time to hear all your prayers" reminded me of an rpg I played recently that addressed this directly. Late game you discover a party member is...essentially a time lord, and has been effectively save scumming the entire time to revive the party when they fail, kang style. This is hinted at by flashbacks and a media res intro that have major inconsistencies with what actually happened as well as a number of very lucky coincidences throughout the story. And, while it works well...it also drives her to madness. Because, even if god COULD do that, having to live that way, living every moment over and over as if it were years long, would be a living hell. That he could only do it for so long before going insane. She of course decides to conquer the world to protect everybody by force (and we discover her predecessor engineered her own destruction to free herself) It's...a completely bananas ending to an until then pretty bog standard jrpg about being a cop helping out the townsfolk with lost cats the mob and murders. I loved it so much...always funny to me that jrpgs being pretty universally atheist in philosophy goes so under the radar.
