I went to work and shared what happened, and promptly shut down the engineering department with arguments about the Monty Hall problem. Those that understood she was right were sorely outnumbered, but managed to change a few minds. One way to show it is by expanding the number of doors to ten.

2025-07-05 02:58:04 +0000 UTCThe newspaper where I lived ran an article about Marilyn vow Savant and the Monty Hall problem. I wrote a mathematical model that showed she was wrong (oops). I contacted the reporter who ran the story, and they wanted to quote me. He said that a lot of people said she was wrong, but no one said why. A day before the article ran, I reran the simulation, and noticed a small error. Seemed of little consequence, so as I reran the corrected version, I was astonished to discover she was right. I called the reporter, and he changed the article so that I was quoted as saying she was right. 😅
