OK...I'm going to need some citations for the video game thing. As an educator, neuroscientist and a person who did actual research in an academic setting on this, I vehemently disagree. Bobo the Clown was the only evidence of this, which was unfairly generalized to video games and has been highly criticized for methods, methodology and improper conclusions. Since then, several study have not shown any causal link between violent video games and increase in violence. The only caveat is in people who ALREADY SHOWS AGGRESSIVE TENDENCIES. Its like saying, "the murderer got all riled up from the violent things I showed them" and blaming the violent media and not the sociopathy of the individual. Even the academic cited says so, and I quote, "Not surprisingly, the more violent your childhood neighborhood, the more likely you are to be violent. And if it's in the home, the likelihood increases. Same thing again - watching violent tv makes you more violent if that's your tendency, same with music, video games, etc." -Roberr Sapolsky http://www.robertsapolskyrocks.com/aggression-iii.html

2025-09-02 18:12:23 +0000 UTCIsn't the guy who wrote On Killing the same guy who has trained many police officers who were involved in shootings of unarmed people? Hasn't his military career, as it relates to combat, been called into question as well? And there are articles like this one https://havokjournal.com/law-enforcement/on-grossman-how-a-pseudoscientist-pushed-our-understanding-of-killing-back-20-years/ that lend credence to some criticisms of the author. And from what I understand, what he based his research on was debunked well before he published his first article about PTSD or killing. I would also be interested in the articles about the role that violent video games play in increased aggression, because so far, my EBSCO search in APA PsyInfo has not revealed any articles that support that claim.
