FYI: American citizens can gain a dutch residency visa by starting a business there. You can live in any dutch territory (Aruba, Curaçao, the Netherlands, and Sint Maarten) and bring your spouse and children with you. It requires modest startup capital (4,500 euro) and lasts for two years with option to renew. There is no language requirement, but if you do want to go on to apply for dutch citizenship you will need to be fluent at an intermediate level.
