To reply to the paratrooper talking about eating rats in basic, thatโs all it was. Talk. Every soldier likes to brag about whoโs training was harder, whoโs was most extreme. When I was in Japan, a Japanese Air Self Defense officer asked me if it was true that Marines had to kill a puppy theyโd raised to graduate basic training. Itโs just generations upon generations of soldiers slapping it up against a tape measure to try to be the most hardcore.
