I ate alone in my room, finishing my meal in peace.
Celia, for some unfathomable reason, had made me a huge omelet, crispy bacon, andâbecause of courseâa protein shake.
Yeah. Breakfast of the (bed) champion.
I stared at the shake for a good ten seconds, wondering where the hell she even got it from. Because, as far as I knew, neither of us went to the gym.
But somehow, this magical protein shake had manifested into existence.
And why?
The reason was painfully obvious.
Celia, in all her passive-aggressive, judgmental sister glory, probably thought it would help replenish me after all my⊠nightly activities.
Which was stupidâbecause, one, I was a Nephilim now, and my stamina was basically infinite. And twoâitâs a protein shake. What the hell was it supposed to do? Give me muscle recovery for my sex life?
I sighed. Weird reasoning.
But hey. Food was food. I wasnât about to complain.
I took a sip of the shake, grimacing slightly at the taste. It wasnât bad, but it had that artificial vanilla flavor that made me feel like I was drinking liquefied cardboard.
I finished everything anyway.
Once I was done, I grabbed the tray and headed downstairs, figuring I might as well put the dishes away.
And thatâs when I heard it.
Laughter.
Giggling.
And not just any giggles.
The gossip kind.
I paused at the bottom of the stairs, brows furrowing.
I could hear Celiaâs voice. And Purielâs. And⊠oh, great.
My pets.
And Foxy.
Yeah. This was gonna be bad.
I stepped into the kitchen, setting the tray down.
And they didnât even notice me.
Because they were too busy gossiping about me.
âI still canât believe he acted like that,â Celia said, clearly enjoying herself.
Puriel snorted. âPathetic.â
Foxy wagged her tail. âIt was cute, though.â
Shadow, who was lounging on the counter, purred. âI never expected him to be so⊠clingy.â
Celia laughed. âRight? Imagine the way he held onto Lilieth? The way he literally said âfeed meâ like a spoiled child?â
I narrowed my eyes.
Celia smirked. âI should have recorded it.â
I cleared my throat.
The room went dead silent.
Slowly, all of them turned to look at me. I gave them a flat stare. âSeriously?â
Celia, mid-laugh, froze and blinked at me. Then, after an awkward beat, she muttered, âOopsâŠâ
I sighed, rubbing my temples. âYeah, oops.â Then I turned my attention to Puriel, narrowing my eyes. âAnd you. You shouldnât be gossiping like that either.â
She raised a bored brow. âOh?â
I crossed my arms. âYouâre my aunt, right? You should have some motherly instinct.â
Puriel stared at me. Then, in the most deadpan voice imaginable, she said, âIf you were a real kid, Iâd consider it. But since youâre not⊠no.â
I huffed. âWow. Heartless.â
She smirked. âYouâre not a child, Ethan. Youâre a Nephilim. I donât do motherly instincts for people who have more sex than most creatures in existence.â
Celia burst into laughter.
I scowled. âRude.â
Shadow hopped onto the table, tail flicking. âTo be fair, sheâs got a point.â
Red yawned loudly from the floor. âDamn, you really out here getting bullied in your own house.â
I glared. âYouâre all traitors.â
They ignored me. Celia let out a dramatic âAhhh.â Then she smirked. âSo thatâs why you stayed in the Demon World for so long last time. Thatâs why.â
I huffed. âSays the person who just gave me a protein-packed breakfast.â
She giggled. âYeah, well. I figured youâd need it.â
I frowned. âSpeaking ofâŠâ I tilted my head. âWhere the hell did you get that protein shake?â
Celia froze. Foxy suddenly found the ceiling very interesting. Puriel rolled her eyes.
I narrowed my eyes. âCeliaâŠâ
She cleared her throat, shifting in place. âUh. Well.â
I leaned forward. âWhere. Did. You. Get. It?â
She sighed. âFine. I borrowed it.â
I paused. âFrom where?â
She looked away.
I blinked. Then my stomach dropped.
ââŠCelia.â
She whistled innocently.
I scowled. âYou didnât.â
Celia laughed nervously. âOkay, okay, but before you freak outââ
I cut her off, staring at her in disbelief. âCelia. Did you actually steal some gym broâs protein shake?â
She gasped dramatically, clutching her chest like I had just accused her of murder. âHow dare you! I would never steal!â
I squinted. âThen explain.â
She huffed, crossing her arms. âI won it.â
I blinked. âWhat.â
Celia rolled her eyes. âAlright, so, this morning, I went to this new 24-hour gymââ
Puriel immediately cut in, staring at her like she was insane. âWhy?â
She waved her hand. âBecause why not? Itâs a new gym. I accidentally saw it when I was on my way home from grocery shopping.â
I sighed. âAnd?â
She smirked. âAnd they were having a promotional event.â
I frowned. âWhat kind of event?â
Celia grinned. âA bench press contest.â
My brain shortcircuited.
Shadow blinked. âWait. You entered?â
Celia tilted her head smugly. âUh, yeah?â
I massaged my temples. âCelia. You donât even work out.â
She shrugged. âNeither did half the people there. It was just a bunch of dudes showing off to their girlfriends. Easy pickings.â
Foxy snorted. âNo way. You beat gym bros at bench pressing?â
Celia grinned. âNot exactly.â
I narrowed my eyes. âThen what exactly did you do?â
She smirked. âI hustled them.â
I could hear my brain break from the inside.
I blinked slowly. âYou hustled gym bros?â
She nodded. âLook, it was simple. First, I pretended to be an innocent, clueless girl who just wanted to âsee what the hype was about.ââ She continued. âSo then, one of the trainers was like, âHey, you can try, but donât hurt yourself, sweetheart.ââ She rolled her eyes. âLike, condescending as hell, right?â
Shadow snickered. âI can see where this is going.â
Celia grinned. âSo I asked, âWhat do I get if I win?ââ
I deadpanned. âAnd they just offered you protein shakes?â
She shrugged. âOne guy said if I could bench more than him, heâd give me his entire post-workout meal.â
Redâs ears perked up. âWait, did you actually lift anything?â
