What makes the series so complex is that the author Jenny Han is a show runner & co-writer for the screenplay. The first episode was basically a homage to the first book. As the episodes go on, Jenny Han incorporates elements of book 2&3 into the first season like the infinity necklace and actually Jere and belly donโt kiss until the ending of book 2 so the show is different but carries the premise of the book. Since the first book is all in Bellyโs voice, Conrad is one sided but in the show we see his POV, and we see that heโs not the same Conrad this summer. Everyone notices that change in him, his flaw has always been miscommunication, but when you read the books we see that growth. The third book corresponds remarkably with the first one because the third book also contains belly voice and Conradโs. ๐
