I shot with Natalie in the subdued but unmistakably BDSM themed props room of a dominatrix dungeon/loft/peerspace (lmao). The space is packed with character(s)—pig masks, riding crops, and other accessories you’d expect to find in a a kinky palace such as this. Natalie leaned into the vibe perfectly, mesh bodysuit paired with thigh-high heeled boots with the obligatory sex police hat. Natalie kills it here, she loves the props, she loves the masks, she was clearly in her element and having fun.
The room itself presented some lighting challenges. The existing red light came exclusively from bulbs mounted directly overhead, which created harsh shadows that didn’t work for the look I wanted. To fix this, I added a couple of flat-panel LEDs in the corners of the room, spreading additional red light throughout the space. This helped fill out the shadows and gave the room a more even, moody glow—perfect for capturing the “red room” vibe you’d associate with a club or a dungeon setting.
Put the 35 down for a moment and picked up the Sony 55mm 1.8 for that impeccable autofocus. Shooting in these monochromatically lit scenes makes it a challenge to dial things in manually, so while the 55 doesn't have my favorite aesthetics, it's reliable!
