Our January Movie Night episode comes courtesy of Kaleb W, who suggested coverage of the Fyre Fest documentaries! He writes: "A Marxist breakdown of that entire event would be interesting because its such a perfect combination of commodification of the festival culture with the internet age with straight up capitalist grifting. I feel like you could get a good 20 minutes out of it, minimum." Ha ha! The joke's on you, Kaleb! We got 57 minutes out of it! Ha ha!
Fyre Fest is an utterly grotesque cultural production that is a culmination of the worst aspects of silicon valley entrepreneurialism combined with the worst aspects of media and entertainment culture. Hulu and Netflix have taken it upon themselves to recap everything for us in competing documentaries, which mainly serve to give the various scumbags involved a chance to attempt to make themselves look better. We rant and rave about the whole thing. Hope you enjoy!
