Inspired by our experience last month with the Wachowski's Bound, we dig into another under-appreciated entry in their filmography: 2008's kitsch extravaganza and anime adaptation Speed Racer. Just what does it mean to be a racer? What should you do when there's weak shit on your track? Will this podcast become exclusively devoted to the films of the Wachowski sisters? Internet history fact: When "The Dark Knight" came out, DC fanboys loved it so much they wanted the film to be the highest rated film on IMDB. That spot was held by "The Godfather" at the time, so they did a mass downvote brigade on the ratings for that film on the site. Goes to show how much these types of fans want validation from the public.

2020-10-19 10:04:38 +0000 UTCAlso, glad you mentioned "The Dark Knight" and how its success and "Speed Racer"'s failure made "dark and gritty" the Warner Bros. business plan moving forward. I remember being 12 going to see that film and being very scared (yes, scared. my main experience with Batman was watching "The Batman" on Kids WB). It should also be noted that a number of planned light-hearted movies got shafted thanks to the box office bomb "Speed Racer" (two that come to mind are plans for a Shazam! movie and a live-action Thundercats film).

Say what you will about it, but when Into the Spider-Verse to now, a lot of people were comparing it to Speed Racer in terms of its unique visuals.
