Poll for November
Added 2023-09-19 08:54:36 +0000 UTCHi everybody,
I am currently working on the statues for September. In the meanwhile I thought it would be a good thing to post the poll for November! For those who missed it, October will be the Ellirmilborg Ruins Expansion. I have already worked on that set a bit and it has changed slightly from the original plan, but I think in a good way! Pre-release pictures coming in a few days.
There are two new entries for this poll, and you may (well, will) notice that I have been playing a certain game, which inspired them:
- Making a complete playable mind flayer nautiloid would be a matter of at least a couple of months of work if not more with cutting to scale, test printing, etc… and I don’t know how easy it would be to print it and actually use it on the tabletop (although it would be sooo cool...). For that reason I thought about doing interiors (much like for the original airship), with objects and props in their fleshy and brainy theme. Maybe you don’t have mind flayers in your worlds and game (I usually don’t), but these should work as some mad alchemist contraptions, or some elder creature’s twisted lab.
- The inspiration for the second set came from the tribal and rocky interior rooms of the druid grove that you find early in the game. I wanted to do something like this for a while, and although it is quite simple, I find it effective and it gave me a nice visual starting point. I want to make many more stone animal statues, though!
The Nautiloid Sanctum. Walls of flesh pulse like the heartbeat of a gargantuan creature: its organs are carved into rooms, its tissues into laboratory tables and menacing pods. Something moves inside these living tanks. - Mind flayer themed objects and props with pods, vats, psy-cannons and other living flesh contraptions. There should also be an OpenLOCK set to make nautiloid rooms, but that depends on the volume of scatter terrain, which is the main part of the release.
The Druid Grove. Right outside the civilized land, this sanctuary of nature welcomes weary travelers who respect its ways. Those who enter the grove look in awe at the looming animal shapes. Stone eyes seem to follow their steps. - Rock walls with a round movable boulder door decorated in a tribal style, druidic objects and props and animal statues! Everything claimed by vines, thorns and roots.
Hell's Port. A host of parrots greets the ships coming to port. They laugh and taunt the weary sailors, but they're ready to flee at the sight of a gun. For Hell's Port is a place of pirates: gunpowder and bullets are its currency. - This set will contain modular wooden docks (with barnacled and sea-claimed parts), a kingpost crane and a fisherman/raider small ship (slightly smaller than the viking ship size).
The Siege Tower. The sound of battle cries, orders and the clashing of swords fill the air. Catapults and ballistas spit their death on the town’s wall, but the eyes of the besieged widen in fear at the sight of the towers: slow but steady, approaching the bastions with their load of screaming foes. - A modular siege tower that can also be built as a solid wooden outpost. Objects and Props will contain anything useful in a siege and a few customization options to change the siege engine to non-human races (I’m thinking orcs, inspired by that iconic Pelennor look!).
Hell! Scourging heat and blood-chilling wails: there is no mistaking the smell of sulfur and desperation that pollutes the air. We are in hell… - Jagged rocks, runic stones and devilish bone-structures: everything that you’d expect in fantasy hellish planes. With an Oblivion style portal to the lower hells!
The Blueteeth Tribe Camp. When the sun fades, the cries and laughter of the Blueteeth Camps can be heard from a great distance. Their brawling contests are as legendary as their skill in hunting, which are proven by the gargantuan corpses from which they build their homes. This fame alone is strong enough to dissuade lesser tribes from battling them. - A barbarian camp with tents and huts made from the remains of giant beats: ribcages, horns and hides. To furnish them, hunting objects and props as well as the everyday life items of the barbarians.
The Pyramid of the Sun. Many steps lead to the Altar of the Sun where the high priest communes with the Gods. Below, in the depth of the pyramid, many treasures sacred to the Serpent, the Lotus and the Macaw are guarded by silent wardens. - A mesoamerican pyramid (OpenLOCK set) with playable interiors and ritual objects and props, as well as its secret treasures and its stone snake wardens.
The Temple of Flowing Sand. A lonely temple in a valley of dead kings, resting for eternity. The sea of sand flows free between its colonnades. They say that in its deepest chamber the high priestess is still pondering the sky. - Ancient Egyptian style temple (OpenLOCK) with a decorated entrance, funerary objects and props, obelisks and colonnades.
Al'Nab, the Oasis. Thirsty and famished travelers often end up in Al'Nab with a sigh of relief. Although its name may seem ominous - the Tusk - it is a peaceful place... as long as you stay in your tent at night. - A fantasy Persia themed set, with a modular bazaar (OpenLOCK set), its precious contents as Objects and Props, and camels!
The Labyrinth. A thin rope made of red silk. "If you lose this, you will be lost." They ventured between the towering rock walls of the house of Asterius, never to be seen again. - A greek-style labyrinth terrain (OpenLOCK set), with greek themed objects and props and the lair of the minotaur! The Avrean Oracle is a good example of its style.
That’s it! I’ll be collecting the results at the end of the week, hopefully statues will be ready by then, as well as the pre-release shots for October.
May the best location win!
Thank you for the support, and I wish you a happy hobby time!

Agreed. Scatter never makes me that happy on top of a green canvas. Always looks off hah.

2023-10-03 20:29:01 +0000 UTCI've voted for the Nautiloid Sanctum because that would probably give you the most satisfaction as a designer, but in that case my preference would be for an Openlock set rather than a load of scatter terrain.
