Exclusive October Dormitory Diary Entry - Ura Takazumi

Hello, this is Ura with my exclusive October diary entry.

In mid-October, our studio’s project finally wrapped up. I had my fair share of frustrations, but for now, I’m just relieved it’s done.

And then—

Finally—

I get to draw KEY ANIMATION!!!

I’m beyond thrilled!

In mid-October, my fellow new hires and I attended a key animation orientation, where they explained the process and shared plans for the future. With the summer project now finished, they want me to work on key animation for our next in-house production! However, since I still need more experience with in-between checking, I’ll have to balance key animation with my regular animation checks. Honestly, it’s going to be tough. But my episode is a little way off, so I’m hoping to get as much key animation experience as possible in the meantime.

I’ve already started with layout planning and initial cuts. It’s a world of difference from in-betweens or secondary animation. I’m drawing everything from scratch, from backgrounds to character movement, carefully interpreting the storyboards as I go. It’s incredibly fun—the hours just fly by. I love it.

I always felt that I couldn’t truly call myself an animator until I started doing key animation, so this feels like I’m finally stepping up to the starting line.

Hello, I’m an animator.

Time to give it my all.
