OPSR Chapter 21

The guards watching weren’t paying attention and let him make it a quarter of the way before they started to move to stop him. Even then, they weren’t moving fast enough; both guards were running to subdue him instead of taking him down with the spears in their hands. Someone from the crowd gasped at the situation. I tossed my shoe up in front of me, grabbed it, and flung it with most of my power at the back of his head.

Enel wasn’t expecting the blow to come directly behind him, his body moving so fast it wasn’t prepared for any strike. As it hits him, his body loses control, and the deadman sprint I interrupted makes him eat shit as he falls hard, hurting himself. The guards caught up with him just as he stood back up, pinning him down as he kept reaching for the fruit with incredible desperation.

One of the guards finally attacked him, slamming the butt of his spear into Enel’s face as he yelled out. “How many times does this make Enel? You might have even gotten lucky today if that person hadn’t assisted us.” I just rolled my eyes. He might not have been able to eat the fruit before they dog piled him, but he certainly would have reached the fruit to get the chance to.

The two guards escorted him out. Even now, they didn’t rough him up too much, once again proving the story Enel told about being mistreated was most likely complete hogwash, the delusions of a sociopath. The guards were more like monks, practicing their religion while tempering their bodies, but most of the time, they would act on the side of good. It didn’t seem to be the first time Enel tried to steal these fruits, and chances are, he’d eventually get it and wipe out the city.

There were only two guards for the main chamber of this temple, though… And they both left to take Enel out… I looked around again before jumping over the rope sectioning off the door. The priestess yelled at me. “W-wait, what  are you doing?” “I’m just going to get my shoe? What’s the deal with these fruits, by the way, what makes them so special?”

“Those are fruits that provide special abilities to those who consume them. Legend says that a great hero will appear and fight against a great evil with these fruits.” I listened to what she said, but I felt more drawn to the colorful fruit again. I heard that devil fruits can choose their wielders, and I do feel it. I feel the pull to the fruit like our fates were bound together.

“I feel… A connection with that fruit. What does that mean?” The priestess went silent as I unconsciously walked toward it. The crowd watched in silence as I picked the fruit up before peeling off the hard skin and seeing a fruit similar to an orange underneath. I took a bite and… Of course, it tasted bad. Every fanfic says they taste bad, and mine isn’t any different.

I wasn’t blessed with a special system that would make me OP I kind of got lucky with Sanji’s overpowered body, but this was something anyone could have. Judge was a genius just short of being the smartest person on the planet. The only person without a doubt smarter than him ate a devil fruit specifically linked to making him more intelligent.

People describe the taste, but they didn’t have a super palate like I did. It tasted bad, but most people wouldn’t understand why unless they did. The fruit was… Too much… It was too much, everything all at once. Too salty, too sweet, too bitter, too sour, even too umami. The taste was disharmonious as they clashed to stand out. The fruit was also calorically dense, possibly over ten thousand calories, which made it even harder to get down.

They also wouldn’t have as much control over their body, specifically the feeling of their lineage factor. I could feel the changes happening to me. Fishmen were naturally stronger than other races(except for giants, but giants were only strong because of their size); their muscles were packed with more power, but with a heavy focus like that, it made them terrible at learning different types of haki.

The winged races were good at activating a specific sensory version of observation haki. I didn’t understand what humans were good at until now. They were the best at adapting; they were the best at breaking through their limits. Garp was born stronger than most, but through hard work and dedication to his dream of beating up pirates, he surpassed the strength of all. Only now that he was reaching old age did people stand a chance at wearing him down.

I felt my strength improve, which made sense. This was a mythical zone; I was still sussing out the information I gained from eating it while checking the other changes to my body. Not only did my strength increase, but the upper limit for my power also did. This was my base form, the same half form I could go into from completing so much of the Fishman lineage factor. I could feel myself slotting into place as well, far stronger than the fishman half form, but the two weren’t mutually exclusive.

It might be possible to activate both at the same time. I felt it wouldn’t be cumulative, but the dual form would still be stronger than just going into one or the other. The mythical fruit was pulling heavy duty in comparison, though. The name of the fruit finally came to me through the information packet I absorbed when I ate the fruit. It was the mythical zone: model thunderbird.

Some fruits were like that; you’d learn information on how to handle them, while some gave nothing, like the gum-gum fruit. Luffy should have known the fruit's real name if it gave him any information, but it didn’t. I could feel how to control my forms almost innately from the shift in my lineage factor, while Luffy had to train from basically zero with his Nika fruit.

Besides the half form, my animal form felt bigger than I was comfortable using in this tiny temple. I could shift, but there was a good chance I’d break something or smash through the ceiling if I did. This fruit came with plenty of extra bonuses, besides the more powerful forms as well. What was the thunderbird known for? Controlling the weather, specifically lightning.

Anyone who ate the thunder fruit would be subordinate to me. While they could turn themselves into electricity, I could control it. I could even make it so they couldn’t turn to lightning around me. Flapping my wings could create storms, and while most viewed storms as a bad thing, the rejuvenating nature of them couldn’t be understated. Rain is needed for plants to grow after all.

The fruit was based on a guardian deity like Kaido’s. It meant, unless I protected Skypiea from a disaster like they expected to happen, there was no awakening of this fruit. At the same time, it was a mythical zone; it was one of the strongest without awakening. And this devil fruit came with two subordinate fruits. The thunder fruit and cloud fruit had potential combinations I would need to try out to know just how good these fruits were together.

The main question now was… Who should I give these two other fruits to? As I was wondering that, I heard someone with an authoritative voice yell out.  “Stop right there, who are you, and where is the supreme fruit?”
