Ludmilla

I'm publishing a story this weekend. Think of it as a warm-up, a way to get back into gear after the holidays…
But the theme has haunted me so much since I returned that I ended up creating hundreds — no, hundreds and hundreds — of images to capture what I had in mind.
There’s truth in it, and fiction too. But it’s up to you to figure out which is which.

I’m going to tell you an illustrated story. The story of Ludmilla.
Ludmilla… The first time I heard about her, it was from Maxim, who introduced himself as her husband.
That night, in a hotel in Bali, I quickly realized he wasn’t really her husband.
Maxim was alone, completely drunk, and crying. He spoke of politics, of his country.
And there’s something disarming about seeing a man cry when he’s drunk — so I invited him to join the little group of us drinking at the hotel bar.
Later, I stayed with him a bit longer. His story was fascinating…
Or rather, Ludmilla’s story was.
And that’s the story I’ll be sharing with you this weekend.

Brace yourself.
