If you were to sacrifice someone to a god and something good happened not long after, then, in your mind, the sacrifice worked and you need to keep doing it to maintain good fortune. On the other hand, if nothing changes or if something bad happens after, maybe the sacrifice wasn't good enough or wasn't done right, so you need to do more to appease the god and gain their favor. Also I think you guys would have fun with the Happy Science cult. They're a Japanese cult with multiple animes made by notable anime studios spreading their propaganda. The movies are hilariously bad, featuring prominent religious figures such as the Angels Helen Keller and a "shiny" variant of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. You could even make some bonus content alongside it by doing watch party-style reactions to the anime movies.

That is 100% a coping mechanism. Everyone has had the urge to laugh at wildly inappropriate times, and for some people it’s a chronic reflex. No judgement here! Another awesome episode.
