I keep fishing for a reason to buy a console because I'm mentally attached to that feeling of hopping on with the boys like the old times, but man, nothing is worth the price. Not even the standard PS5. Steam big picture is more than adequate.

I get that consoles are usually no fuss, they're optimized and relatively hassle free, but a console can be 110% replicated with a PC to the point where a lot of PC owners see zero point in owning one, other than the switch for its portability, price point, and exclusives. It's quite literally the only console that isn't a waste for a PC owner to buy, but of course that's subjective.

Full disclosure I have not played it (probably a good game), but the character design alone makes me irrationally angry, the same way the Japanese steam deck mascot does (felt super lazy). I feel like I have seen this fucking character in every tutorial for every game I have ever played. There is nothing unique about it. Look at Mario, look at Link, look at Sackboy, look at Master Chief, hell, look at the fucking rabbids. Astro bot is a tutorial character designed after the already ugly PS5 and boy does it show. Nothing more, nothing less. Like I said. Could be a great game, but an incredibly lazy mascot that screams tutorial rather than soulful and compelling character that would draw me in and make me want to actually purchase the console. People say the game is good. If it came to PC I'd probably buy it on a steam sale.

Ghost of Tsushima, Horizon, God of War, Demon Souls, Spider Man, Astro Bot. Even some lesser games that were good like Rise of Ronin or Stellar Blade. Not to mention Sony published games they could have made exclusive if they wanted like Last of Us.

But there are some great games for it like GOW Ragnarok, Demon Souls, Astrobot, Spider-man 2, Horizon Forbidden West and a few more astrobot isn't it's first good game. I think the main problem is the entire industry got caught up in the live service craze and we are seeing the effects of this action. They make good games but they take an incredibly long time to make it. For example ghost of tsushima 2 is almost certainly coming before this generation ends and I 100% guarantee it will be popular and likely well received. I also disagree that there isn't a reason to own a Playstation 5, you guys just prefer the switch(which is totally fine.) It's also not like Nintendo doesn't also suck they release 1 game every year that is fantastic and then like 2 trash Pokémon games. At the end of the day it's all just a preference thing. Unless your an Xbox fan cause at this point its over for you. Also maybe just me but I have always hated the PC better thing as a pc player. Pc and console experience is drastically different in pretty much every way. Many people just prefer sitting in front of a TV screen with a controller in their hand. Even as someone who has a solid pc I buy 99% of my games on my ps5 simply cause I like laying down and playing games before I go to bed.

Tbh, I personally don't want infinite sequels to a series. Everything has to end. I don't want a game I love to end up being dragged out and ruined. I'm fine with things ending. For me, the issue is that nothing new is good. Most new ips are lazy cash grabs that rehash the same things every other game has. That's the issue, not that existing game series aren't being sequal'd into the ground.

2024-09-13 18:13:02 +0000 UTCI will not defend the $700 price tag on the PS5 Pro AND the $80+$30 price tag for the stand and disc drive, but I do think getting a PS5 is a good option. Sure, a gaming PC is gonna out perform and maybe even outlast any console, but the price for a good gaming PC that will keep up with AAA games is triple the price of the PS5 Pro. I have a gaming laptop from 2020 that I spent $1500 on and it no longer is able to play newer triple A games above medium settings and that is with a couple hundred dollars of upgrades to it (SSD, RAM, etc.) If you have the money, then get yourself a gaming PC for $2k+ and have a gaming machine that will last you a long time. But if you aren't looking to spend that much money, the PS5 does run really well for a fraction of the cost and you'll be able to play all the triple A games for several years to come.
