2025-03-22 08:19:44 +0000 UTCbecause i think it’d be a very interesting talking point on the podcast. the character starts out as a bad person, basically a 30 year old shut-in gooner incel, and he’s meant to be gross at first. the story doesn’t glorify it and i’m not at all defending him. he’s straight up gross, but the fanservice dies down a ton compared to the early scenes, not at all like prison school. he gets reincarnated as a newborn and a talented mage but he’s still in that gooner incel mental headspace, and since he goes after girls his physical age, people call it pedophillic. it’s also one of the few isekai with genuinely good writing, plot, character development, and world building. i couldn’t really continue after season one but I would say I still enjoyed the show.

It's just that there are a large amount that are either boring, endlessly monotonous and repetitive or, more aggravating to me, also creepy in how they depict children. I find it weird how that element is defended so earnestly and vehemently online as well as if being attracted to drawings of children is somehow vastly different to being attracted to children in general. I'm not a moral crusader against anime in general, I don't think people are wrong for liking anime, I just find the enjoying the loli or school fetish stuff indefensible. It's so hard to talk about my opinions there without sounding like I'm grandstanding or policing but it is my opinion. -J

If you guys want an actual GOOD anime and not just slop, try something like To Your Eternity, Nagi no Asukara, Ousama Ranking, or Mob Psycho 100 (my personal fav).
